WHERE: Renzo Gracie Academy Latham - Bruno Tostes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, 698 New Loudon Rd. (NYS Rt. 9), Latham, NY 12110
WHAT: For 24 hours straight, a team of students at Renzo Gracie Academy Latham - Bruno Tostes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will train Jiu-Jitsu to raise funds for the
Bobbie Arsenault Endowment Fund, with proceeds benefitting Make-A-Wish Northeast NY.
WHY: The Roll-A-Thon was started in 2015 to help honor the fight of the wife of Renzo Gracie Latham student Rich Harris.
In November 2014, Laurie Harris was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer. In early 2015, she received intense chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant that put her cancer in remission. Rich wanted to honor Laurie's fight while also honoring his late father, Richard, who lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma in 2009, and the “Renzo Gracie Latham Roll-AThon” was born. The first annual Roll-A-Thon in November 2015 raised $9,200 for the NY Oncology Hematology “Community Cancer Foundation”, which helps local families fight the financial battle of fighting cancer. Based upon the success of the 2015 event, Rich, and fellow students Jen Gbur, Joshua Toas, Bob Miller, Veronica Gbur and Scott Miller worked with Professor Bruno Tostes to turn the Roll-A-Thon into an annual event. 2017 will be the third year of the event.
